We know Porsche said there won’t be a baby Cayenne in the future. And we also know they denied the Roxster name. But we want to take our chances and bet on a future baby Cayenee and even more on the "Roxster" name.
Even more if you take a look on the market and on the history a small SUV from Porsche is the most normal thing to happen. For instance, Porsche, Volkswagen and Audi have an SUV built on the same platform: the Cayenne, the Touareg and the Q7. Now, from the things we know there will be the Q5 and the Tiguan built on the same platform. And taking a look on the market: BMW has a small SUV: the X3 and also does Mercedes: the next MLK-Class. As a result we are sure that the baby SUV is going to happen, and will happen quite soon: two years after the Q5 will be launched.
The Cayenne is a real success on the SUV market, but Porsche also needs a small SUV for that part of the customers that prefer luxury, SUV and compact car all in only one model.

The upcoming baby Cayenne was already named by the Autobild magazine Roxster. It will share many of its components with the upcoming Audi Q5 and Volkswagen Tiguan. The Roxster will be a luxury car with sporty handling characteristics and high achievement. Sportier than the current Cayenne, it will feature muscular line contours, LED headlamps and taillights.
Even if there is no info about the power plant of the next baby Cayenne, we have reasons to believe that Porsche will use a V6 and a V8 engine for the standard version and a turbocharged V8 for a Turbo version of the small Cayenne. The output will rank between 280 hp and 500 hp for the Turbo version.
About the performance, they will be improved compared to the big Cayenne, one main reason being the loose of weight. So, the Roxster will make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 4.5 seconds and will have a top speed of 180 mph.
Like all the future models the Roxster will feature the Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) technology. It is supposed to lower the fuel consumption of individual models by over eight percent (NEDC). In real driving conditions, savings of up to 15 percent are possible.
The Roxster will have a big competition on the small luxury SUV market: the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz MLK and the Land Rover LR2.

History
Is not actually a history page, just a little talk about the two SUVs the new Roxster will be based on. And since they will be launched before the Porsche, well we can call it history, no?
First is the Audi Q5, a model that Audi previewed with the Cross Coupé Quattro Concept and that will be launched in 2008. The Audi Q5 will come with Audi’s renowned quattro all-wheel-drive system and technically it is derived the Volkswagen Touareg. The vehicles will come with Audi’s new TSI petrol engines, which use a supercharger and turbocharger. Naturally there will be a range of turbodiesel powertrains too.

The 2008 Tiguan was unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. This "small brother" of the Touareg can be recommended to all those car drivers who enjoy the individual visual appearance and versatility of a SUV, but also expect a premium level of comfort, agility and variability.
The Tiguan is the first SUV in the world to be offered exclusively with charged engines. The advantage of engine charging: More power, less fuel consumption and lower emissions. Take the example of the gasoline engines: There will be three new TSIs – direct injection engines with turbocharging or turbocharging plus supercharging. The four cylinders deliver 110 kW / 150 PS, 125 kW / 170 PS and 147 kW / 200 PS. Take the example of the diesel: A completely redeveloped generation of noticeably quieter common rail four cylinder engines is being employed here. The two TDIs output 103 kW / 140 PS and 125 kW / 170 PS and smash the Euro-5 emissions standard.

Full-time all-wheel drive is absolutely essential off-road. On paved streets an intelligent all-wheel drive also improves active safety. In the Tiguan the latest generation of 4MOTION all-wheel drive is used. It is shifted by manual, or optionally automatic, six-speed transmissions. Both transmissions satisfy special off-road requirements. The manual transmission can be driven at an engine speed of 1,000 rpm or vehicle speed of just 6.69 km/h, for example; this practically equals the crawler gear of a reduction gearbox. The automatic transmission has gear level preselect; in off-road use it prevents shifting to the next higher gear.

The BMW X3 has all the features to further improve its exceptional position as the only premium offer in the segment. Selective modifications in the front, rear and side areas give the vehicle a dynamic character; exceptionally high quality materials, flowing lines and stylish colour schemes dominate the interior. And the design of the new BMW X3 corresponds perfectly with the enhanced potency of its drive units.
The sportiest diesel worldwide is available as the top-of-the-range engine for the new BMW X3. The newly developed 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder unit of the BMW X3 3.0sd with its Variable Twin Turbo (VTT) technology realises 210 kW/286 HP and reaches a maximum torque of 580 Newton metres.

The new generation of in-line six-cylinder petrol engines with 3.0-litre and 2.5-litre capacity is also deployed in the new BMW X3. The VALVETRONIC and Bi-VANOS drive units fitted with a magnesium-aluminium composite crankcase achieve 200 kW/272 HP or 160 kW/218 HP, respectively. The Integrated Chassis Management (ICM) with optimised computer structure ensures an even more effective and rapid interaction of the intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive from BMW with the driving dynamic control DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) and the engine control system in all variants of the engine.

Known only by the internal development code, 204 SUT, the new Mercedes-Benz compact SUV is rumored to be called the MLK-Class, following the logic of the other compact vehicles in the range (SLK, CLK) inspired by larger models (SL, CL). “K” stands for “kurz”, meaning “short” in German. This name seems to work perfectly for Europe, but in the , it will make an inappropriate resemblance to the initials of the late civil-rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr. Another name variant taken into account is “MLX-Class” which does not sound bad, but is not a perfect match for the current Mercedes-Benz system.
2008 Mercedes MLK-Class
The MLK is expected to feature the more potent engine of the C-Class, including the new four-valve 3.0-liter and 3.5-liter V-6s as well as a supercharged four cylinder and a CDI turbo diesel. As any other model in the range, the MLK is likely to feature an AMG version, featuring the V8 engine known from the C55AMG.
The MLK-class is expected to be assembled in Bremen at a yearly production rate of 40.000 units starting with 2008. Expected base price is around $46,000.

Land Rover Freelander was the vehicle to invent the premium compact SUV. While already a classic, the British off-roader goes completely new with a second generation. It may be more of an evolution than a revolution in design, but it was completely reengineered from the ground up. Ready to redefine the segment it has invented, the Land Rover Freelander 2 comes with a dynamic design, purposeful stance, smart and spacious interior, and an abundance of advanced technologies to complete the package.
Freelander 2 is Land Rover’s fourth all-new vehicle in just over four years, and follows the new Range Rover (2002), Discovery 3 (2004) and Range Rover Sport (2005). Their highly successful introductions contributed to record Land Rover sales worldwide in 2005. Technical highlights of the Freelander 2 include two brand-new engines: a 3.2-litre straight-six petrol and a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel. Both feature advanced technologies to deliver outstanding combinations of performance and economy.
Land Rover LR2
The 233 hp i6 petrol engine provides a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h) and 0-60 mph acceleration in 8.4 seconds (0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds). Combined fuel economy is 25.2 mpg (11.2 litres/100 km). The engine is matched to a new six-speed automatic transmission, with Land Rover’s CommandShift offering manual sequential gear changes when required. There is also a driver-selectable sport mode, for livelier performance.
